Introduction: Wernicke Encephalopathy (WE) is an acute neurologic disorder caused by thiamine deficiency. It is characterized by the classic triad of encephalopathy, gait ataxia and oculomotor dysfunction. It occurs in the setting of poor nutrition caused by lack of dietary intake or malabsorption.
